One More Package Delivered

At Jessica's 38-week appointment, the OB/GYN office scheduled her 39-week appointment, which triple-booked the OB/GYN in that time slot. At the same appointment, an induction was scheduled for Monday, Oct 17 (39 weeks 3 days).

On the day of her 39-week appointment, the OB/GYN office called to say that the OB/GYN had been at the hospital late last night with deliveries, and they were cancelling her appointments for the day. Since Jessica was at 39 weeks and had an induction scheduled in 4 days, Jessica wanted to have her appointment. Jessica felt some contractions but nothing strongly. She asked if I was opposed to moving the induction to the following Friday, and I was not opposed. The OB/GYN office called back to say that Jessica's appointment would now be on Tuesday, Oct 18 with the induction moved to Friday, Oct 21.

Jessica's mom flew in the previous Tuesday to take care of Audra and Brooke and to once again lend another set of hands for the upcoming events. Jessica's dad drove over on Saturday to also be with us.

Today, I went to work normally, but Jessica told me to keep my phone close as certain pre-labor events had occurred indicating labor could be imminent.

10:45 am: Jessica called me telling me to come home. She had called the nurse at the OB/GYN office earlier and gotten a call back directing based on her symptoms for her to go to the hospital to get checked.

11:15 am: I arrive home, and our hospital items are loaded into my car. We now head to the hospital!

11:40 am: Since Jessica's contractions were not very strong or close together, Jessica asked if I wanted to stop to get lunch to avoid a hangry Chi and so that Jessica could walk around and see if she could get the contractions closer together. We stop at the shopping center, and I get lunch at Which Wich.

12:15 pm: We arrive at the hospital and are sent to triage to be checked. The nurse quickly comes in, gets some vitals, and checks to see if the water broke yet (it wasn't). She then did a cervical check and Jessica was 6 cm. Since Jessica was already that far along on her own, she didn't need to be induced.

12:40 pm: Jessica is officially admitted, and the L&D nurses come in to start Jessica's IV and do the intake paperwork.

1:40 pm: We are moved into a labor-and-delivery room, and Jessica gets her first dose of antibiotics for Group B strep.

2:00 pm: The anesthesiologist administered Jessica's epidural, and I call my parents to let them know that we were admitted into the hospital. She's coming today!

2:50 pm: The attending nurse checks Jessica, whose cervix is now 7 to 8 cm.

3:00 pm: We meet the on-call OB/GYN. However, it's a while before we see her or the nurses again (and get the second dose of antibiotics) due to a full L&D ward and two emergency C-sections that they attend to.

6:45 pm: The attending nurse checks Jessica again, whose cervix is now 9 cm.

7:30 pm: The on-call OB/GYN breaks Jessica's amniotic sac. Jessica is completely dilated at 10 cm! We now spend more time waiting for baby to drop into position.

9:00 pm: Activity picks up in our room as the delivery team of the OB/GYN and nurses prep for pushing. Pushing commences, and once again, the doctor and nurses all comment on how awesome Jessica did with all of her pushes. After pushing through about 4 contractions...

9:18 pm: Molly Trinh made her entrance into the world!

Audra and Brooke were able to briefly meet their baby sister before heading home for a very late bedtime. They spent some more time with Molly the next day.
