The Thinkery

This week we visited Austin's new children's museum The Tinkery. They just opened in December and it has been quite the popular destination with the cold weather. I decided to take Audra to the Baby Bloomers program which meant they were only open for children 0-3 from 9am-12pm and had events like storytime and a sing along. I had my mom come with me and I was so glad to have the extra hands. We got there right at 9 when they opened and there weren't that many people (likely due to the 20 degree weather). Our first stop was the room with all the lights. She was a bit apprehensive about it all, but certainly interested.

Next we went to the main room on the first floor. There were a lot of activities there that she really wasn't old enough for, yet, so we stuck to the block wall and the baby area. She was also really interested in the other little kids all around her and seeing what they were doing, so a lot of people watching occurred.

After we decided there wasn't much more for her to do down there, we headed upstairs to the Current Lab, where you are guaranteed to get wet. She really enjoyed it, especially the duckies.

The last part of the museum we visited was designed specifically for the younger children. They have a pretend play market and kitchen, a han house, a gymnasium type room and an awesome play area,

Finally, we went back downstairs to attend the sing-a-long. Audra was starting to get tired and wasn't doing a great job waiting for the performance to start (late). Once it started she did a little better. After the singing, they had bubble machines going, which Audra really enjoyed (but I'm not sure she really knew what to think of them).

After that, it was really crowded and Audra was obviously ready for a nap so we headed home. Overall, we really liked it. She was cognitively and physically able to really interact with everything there, and that really made a difference in the experience. Hopefully, we can make it back there when she is a little older as well.
