Audra is Two!

Somehow my little baby went from this:

There is so much I could say about her at this stage. It is going to be hard to sum it all up.

Her language skills are finally starting to come through. Her receptive language has been excellent her whole life, but she has been a late talker. Right now, she can put two- and three-word sentences together. Usually, it is something like "mama, shoes" or "Audra baby" or "Good girl, Z-Z." She is adding about a word (that I can recognize) ever other day, and more frequently, she is babbling on and on to herself about who knows what. Identifying animals by their name or the sound they make is one of her strongest skills.

Her sleep is in an okay spot now. It takes her much longer than I'd like for her to actually go to sleep. My ideal bedtime for her would be to be put down at 7:30 pm and asleep by 8:00 pm, but she seems to like to push it until 10 pm since the daylight saving time change. Her naps have been awesome, though, typically lasting 2 to 2-1/2 hours. We are loving the big-girl bed and very happy to have finally made the switch.

Girl is obsessed with junk food. Candy is a surefire bribe when I really need her to do something. She loves french fries, chips, cookies, fruit snacks, popcorn, and ice cream. Fruit, cheese, and breads are the things she eats the best, and she is finally starting to eat a good amount of meat. Sometimes, she is good about eating what we make for dinner, other times she just picks at it.

She is mostly a happy girl. We have had our tantrum moments and some days are better than others, but compared to other toddlers (at least right now), she isn't bad at all. I'm really hopeful that she will handle the upcoming changes in her life really well as well.

She has so many little quirks. She likes to pretend to (and not actually) go night-night. She loves to say "Z-Z, no" and recently picked up "ack" which is what I say to Zoe when I want her to stop something. One of her favorite activities is putting her diapers on her baby dolls. She is totally digging her sunglasses and hats now. She is obsessed with mixing and will say "mixah mixah mixah" whenever she pretends or I give her something to mix. She likes to pretend she is a baby and have me hold her like one. She always wants to help daddy with his projects but gets bored in under a minute. Her name is her new favorite thing to say (replacing the word "apple"). She is very good about saying "yes, please" particularly if I'm asking her if she wants something to eat or drink. She likes to lay in the grass and look up at the trees. She sings along and does the hand motions really well to many songs now - especially at storytime. She *loves* to play doctor. She has claimed the storage space under the stairs as her own and loves to make her daddy go under there and not let him out - just opening and closing the door on him. Every time she sees a football player she says "ball" really enthusiastically. She gets oddly jealous of things that happen in books or on tv, so if a kid is swinging she says "me me me" and expects me to magically provide a swing for her. I could go on and on there are so many things she does that show us her personality these days.

Daddy's Diatribe: When she wakes up happy at the beginning of the day, she calls for "mama" and/or "dada", or she gets up and knocks loudly on her door. When she sees something that's not how it's supposed to be, she never hesitates to let us know (whether it be not having shoes when we're outside or the Christmas tree lights not being on). When we remind her of something she's supposed to do, she usually responds "oh, kay" or just "oh!" When she needs our help with something, she's usually pretty good about saying "mama, help please" or "dada, help please." She plays well by herself in her playroom, usually by dumping buckets of toys out and not picking them up. When she's on a riding toy of some sort, she'll ask to be pushed--she will want you to keep going, but if you tell her just one more time she will hold up one finger and nod in agreement and give up the fight for more following it. She loves all forms of transportation: bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, and especially trains and airplanes. When she interacts with other people, she will wave and say "hi" and "bye-bye." Her favorite movie right now is "Frozen." She loves being outside, and we've had a few, little neighbors who have become friends. She can pick her clothes out when we want her to, she tries to put them on and take them off but with little success unassisted. She is a pro at climbing up and down the stairs, but until we get the bottom closed off, it is a battle to keep her from going up them without one of us making sure she doesn't fall. She loves her bath time and always remembers to brush her teeth.

We are looking forward to what her 3rd year of life has to offer and can't wait to see her continue to grow and assert her personality.
