Texas Trip 2015
We took our first family trip back to Texas this month. We flew out on Thursday night after Chi got off work and had a direct flight to D/FW Airport where Chi's family picked us up. The next morning, we headed out early to make a quick day trip to College Station and headed to Georgetown that night. We spent the next few days with my family before heading back up to Fort Worth and spending a few days with Chi's family. We had a friend's wedding to attend Sunday night in Fort Worth where we stayed in the reception hotel and flew back Monday morning.
This trip was a true test for us, since we haven't really traveled much with Audra and obviously at all with Brooke. I was a bit anxious about flying with kids, but overall they did well. Audra was a little underwhelmed for the flight out there and a bit cranky and overtired on the flight back. Brooke was restless for the first half off the flight out but fell asleep the second half and didn't start crying until we got out to the car. On the flight back, she was content the entire time in the Ergo (the first flight attendant made me take her out of the Ergo for take off and landing, but this one said nothing so we left her in it). We had 5 hours of car travel that Friday from Fort Worth, to College Station and to Georgetown, and the girls did well until we were about 30 min out from my parents house and they just took turns being ridiculously over it all. On the 2.5-hour drive from Georgetown to Fort Worth, Audra napped the first 2 hours and Brooke napped the entire way.
Overall, they were really flexible and adjusted to all the changes and new people. Brooke did super well and was okay with other people holding her and took the chance to sleep wherever and whenever she felt like it. Audra spent a lot of the trip overtired which made her a bit cranky, but she was a trooper.
We had a lot of fun being around family and friends, and it is fun to see the joy our kids bring to others. They are so loved, and it makes it hard to be away from them all. In some ways, though, we really like the area in Florida we ended up living, and it will be hard to make a decision about whether we want to move back to Texas or stay here when that time comes. We don't have plans to visit again until next year, but we hope that some of our family and friends will be visiting us in the meantime!
